Water Can Sink

              You will need:

              • Cold water
              • Ice cubes
              • Two jars
              • Hot water (45º to 50ºC)
              • Dark food coloring (green, blue or purple)

This is how to do it

              Step 1
Add some dark food coloring to the water. Use that
water to make some ice cubes in the freezer.

              Step 2
Heat some water (have an adult help you if needed)
and fill one jar to three quarters of its capacity.

              Step 3
Gently place an ice cube in the hot water (don’t let it
splash or it won’t work) Take a look at what happens.

              Step 4
Wait for the water to get cold. Then, fill one jar with hot
water and the other one with cold water. Put the jars
              side by side.

              Step 5
Add the ice cubes gently to both jars and compare
              what happens.

              Step 6
You may change the experiment by changing step 2,
adding some food coloring to the hot water and using
plain water for the ice cubes (as shown in setup 1).
