P. 4
Dear student,
This book was written for you: a teenager who knows and uses her or his mother
tongue for different purposes, such as exchanging opinions about a public
service, reading stories, dubbing a silent short film, giving a presentation, writing
instructions, et cetera.
All the experience and knowledge you have with regard to your mother tongue
are also required to communicate in English. Thus, @ccess 1 gives you the
opportunity to make your own decisions. In cooperation with your teacher and
classmates, you will plan and produce language products, such as instruction
manuals, diagrams, trip schedules, et cetera, using the English language. In this way,
your opinions and proposals are considered at all times. In @ccess 1, you, together
with your classmates and teacher, decide on the topic, purpose and addressee of
the proposed language products.
Unlike other books, in @ccess 1 you will find the answers, explanations and
pieces of advice to develop the group and individual activities. This will allow you
to use the English language to create the language products in each of the ten
practices of this book.
As you become familiar with this book, you will realize that using English to create
language products with the help of your classmates and teacher will allow you
to learn it. Therefore, communication in English is established when you ask and
answer questions, when questions arise and are resolved, as well as when proposals,
compliments or criticisms are listened to and given.
While writing this book, I was thinking about you and how to support you. English
becomes useful not only at school, but also outside of it. The goal is that you can
meet, communicate with and get in touch with people all around the world in
English. I hope this book will be a tool to explore other ways of seeing, feeling and
living in this world we share.
I hope that using this book will be as rewarding an experience for you as it was for
me to write it.
