8. Babies articulate a wide assortment of sounds
in their first y ar. When they’re about one year
old, their first understandable wo ds are spoken;
complex sentences begin to be formed at about
three years of age; by the time they’re five children
know several thousand words.
9. The language one is most familiar with and uses
most is their mother’s language. There are people
who speak two languages equally well, they are
called 'perfect bilinguals’. In general, bilinguals don’t
speak both of their languages with the same fluenc .
10. There are many benefits to being bilingual: l arning
other languages is much easier, thinking processes
become enhanced, and it promotes having contact
with other people and their culture.
11. There are economic advantages to being bilingual
or multilingual as well: people who speak several
languages are offered jobs over those that don’t,
and monolingual companies don’t have the same
competitive edge that multilingual companies do.
12. Much like family members, languages are related to
each other. Almost all European languages are part
of the Indo-European family.
13. Germanic, Romance and Slavic are the three groups
most European languages belong to.
